Content strategy for 2026: hub-and-spoke, citation-ready

Why hub-and-spoke beats topic clusters, and how to write spokes that AI models cite.

Hub-and-spoke beats flat content

A hub page covers a topic exhaustively and links down to spokes that drill into sub-topics. Spokes link back up and laterally to siblings. The structure tells Google what your site is authoritative about — and concentrates link equity where it converts.

Spokes must be citable

Citable means: one claim per paragraph, named statistic with source, defined terms in their own block. AI models pull short passages — write passages that can stand alone.

Common questions

  • How many spokes per hub?

5–15 is the working range. Below 5 the hub looks thin; above 15 you start losing the topical concentration.
