Anatomy of a ranking page in 2026

The 12 on-page elements that consistently appear on top-3 ranking pages across 50 SERP audits.

Title-tag patterns

Top-3 pages: 40–60 char titles, primary keyword first, brand suffix. Avoid keyword-stuffing — Google rewrites ~60% of titles already; clarity beats density.

Header hierarchy

One H1, 3–8 H2s, H3s only where needed. Top-3 pages average 1,800 words on commercial-intent queries, 2,400 on informational. Word count is downstream of intent coverage, not a target in itself.

Common questions

  • Is keyword density still a thing?

Functionally no. Cover the topic; don't count words.
